Dolores (Dee) Whitcher

GREECE: December 2, 2021, at age 96. Pre-deceased by husband Warren, sister and brother-in-law Lorraine and Jim Schwenzer, brother and sister-in-law Bob and Shirley Weissegger, brother Don Weissegger, brother-in-law Dick Halloran. Survived by daughters Nancy (Jim) Wilkin and Wendy Tanski; grandchildren Chris Tanski, Katie Chmiel and Kelly Wilkin; great-grandchildren Alex and Anna Tanski and Aubrey Chmiel; sister Carol Halloran; sister-in-law Pat Weissegger; many dear nieces and nephews; the Glanton family; good neighbors from Ridgecrest Road; caring friends from Legacy senior living.

Dee was a switchboard operator for many years at Piehler Pontiac and Rochester General Hospital. Over the years, there were countless gatherings at the family home to celebrate many occasions, or no occasion at all, from pool parties and card games to some of the most fun Christmas Eves on record. She was renowned for her specialty dinner: French Onion Soup, Chicken French and Oreo ice cream layer cake, which she made many, many times.

Dee was tireless in her attention to Wendy and her care of Warren, especially as his health declined in his final years. Several years after his death, she moved to a senior living apartment at Legacy at Park Crescent, where she developed caring friendships and enjoyed playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles and watching her favorite TV shows.

Her family sincerely thanks Dr. Joseph DiPoala, Jr., Dee's primary care physician for many years, and the doctors, nurses and aides at Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center for their truly compassionate care in the final week of her life.

Dee lived a long life and her family and friends will never forget her. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 10:00, St. John The Evangelist Church, 2400 West Ridge Road. Attendees must wear a mask.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dee's memory to Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center, 2652 Ridgeway Ave., Rochester NY 14626.

"I worked with Dee at Piehler Pontiac in the 70's and we had so much fun together for many years! She was great on the switchboard and after that I did see her at RGH and on the switchboard there. Its a memory I have of the Piehler group and her. Sorry for your loss."

"Dear Nancy, This note is with my sincere sympathy to you and your family at this time in your life. I will always remember your mother as the "good" operator at RGH. She was always so pleasant and cheerful when answering a call to make a page. it was always a pleasure to visit with her about 'you' and our workplace. I will always have good memories of 'Dee' and you and the many laughs we had over the years. I have missed you, but will never forget.... With love, Nancy C."
