Barbara Joan Peacock passed away at Marion Health at 7:57 A.M., Saturday, December 11, 2021.
Joan was born to the late Marcus and Ortense (Dean) Winslow on May 22, 1926. She married Myron Reese Peacock on March 3, 1946. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2010 after 63 years of marriage; they raised two children Reece and Jane on the farm in Fairmount.
Joan was a graduate of Fairmount High School. She was a faithful member of Fairmount Friends Church where she loved serving on many committees... kitchen and nursery being her favorites. She was a member of Fairmount Mutual Home Extension Club, Fairmount Fun Club, and a 4-H Leader. She also enjoyed her time working at the Fairmount Trustee's Office and visiting with people daily.
Joan touched the lives of many with her contagious laugh and ability to socialize with anyone. She loved Jesus, her family, church, attending her granddaughters volleyball matches, basketball games, sewing and knitting, journaling, working out with friends, a good meal, watching over the neighborhood from her front window, and she loved to laugh.
She is survived by her brother Marcus (Marylou) Winslow, Jonesboro; Son, Reece (Mary) Peacock, Fairmount; Daughter Jane (Phil) Gentis, Marion; 4 granddaughters Linsie (Brett) Middlesworth, Abby (Jon) Waits, Jerra (Eric) Utterback, Janna (Nick) Higdon. She has 11 great grandchildren, Caleb (Maddie), Colin, Owen, Meyer Middlesworth, Claire and Audrey Waits, Ella and Elaina Utterback, Alex and Allie Higdon. Also surviving, one bonus granddaughter Amy (Michael) Ertel and 5 bonus great grandchildren Mary Grace, Michael, Claire, Emma and Luke Ertel.
She was also preceded in death by daughter-in-law Beth Peacock and grandson K.C. Runyan.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana 46928. Due to COVID there will not be a public service or visitation.
Memorial contribution can be made to Fairmount Friends Church in Fairmount or the K.C. Runyan Scholarship Fund at the Grant County Community Foundation which benefits a graduating senior from Madison Grant pursuing medical studies.

"What a Nice Lady! A Great Laugh and Smile! I enjoyed visiting with her. We are Praying for her Family. God Bless all of you. Jake & Marilyn Roth"
"She introduced me as Joanne when I visited Fairmount in 2018. ?By the way Jimmy is my cousin.? Very humble when you consider that the late movie actor James Dean was her cousin. I asked if I could get a picture with her. She happily obliged. A year later, she was at the James Dean memorial service sitting next to her brother. Naturally, I gave her a copy of the book I wrote. It was a memoir that included how I became a fan of James Dean. My only regret is I did not meet her sooner or I would have included her in the book. Until we meet again in the hereafter. George Farrell"
"Joan was such a beautiful lady. Always so friendly and pleasant whenever we talked to her. We will be thinking of you all with our deepest sympathy. Don and Sara Spahr"
"So sorry to hear about the passing of Joan she was such a great lady"
"We are sorry to hear of your loss. My mother, Joan Gaddis Trout, is one of the Gaddis triplets born naturally at their Fairmount home in 1934. There were so many babies that they didn?t know what to name them. So the older Gaddis siblings named the babies, Joan, Jean and Jane. Joan, my mother, was named after Joan Peacock. Joan was a very dear friend of my mother?s sister, Marilyn Gaddis Myers. Sorry to hear of my mother?s namesake passing away. A very nice lady and a wonderful family!"
"I have so many memories of Joan and her family. She and mom were friend from high school. We would visit back and forth with them and even went on vacations with them. She was a great lady. Reece and Jane Ann and family my sincere condolences."
