Asa Lee King
Asa Lee King, 86, died December 9, 2021. He was born in Valley Junction on January 4, 1935 to Marie (Murphy) & William Asa King. He graduated from Valley HS in 1953. He served in the US Army in 1953-1955. After serving he returned to Des Moines where he met and married Wanda (Holloway) on June 30, 1962.
He worked on the Rock Island Railroad for nearly 20 years. He also served in the Texas Army National Guard 49th Armored Division. He loved woodworking and spending time with family. He was a man of all trades with a contagious laugh.
Asa Lee is survived by his wife Wanda, his children Rae Ann King (Mike Mart) of Altoona , Jorene King (Stephen Ross) of Bondurant, Asa "Butch" King, Natalie Naula (Steven Naula) of Ankeny. His grand children: Jerry, Jason, Dee Ann, Cassie, Jacob, Glenn, Grace & 8 great grandchildren. He was loved by many more family members and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: William, Virginia, Nadyne, and a grandson, Adrian.
Dad loved the holidays, he would want you to hold your loved ones a little closer.
Join the family for a Celebration of Life and an old fashion ice cream social on Sunday December 19th 1:30-3:30 at the Des Moines Heritage Center, at 120 E 5th, Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heartland Greyhound Adoption or the Historic Valley Junction Foundation.
