Chief Adriano "Bob" Valdes Altiveros, USN Ret., 84, born September 8, 1937, in Manila, Philippines, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2021, at The Lund House in Gilbert, AZ.
Bob was the oldest of 4 children. He graduated from the University of the East in Manila, Philippines in 1957 earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. In September 1959, as a Philippine National, he enlisted in the US Navy.
While stationed in Newport, Rhode Island Bob met Gloria. They were married there in April 1962 and in May 1964 he became a "Proud American", a US Citizen. After numerous moves across the US at the request of Uncle Sam, Bob, Gloria plus the "gang of six" finally settled in Arizona in 1976, where he finished his Naval career with a rank of Chief Petty Officer and a rate of Navy Counselor.
Bob modeled discipline and a strong work ethic to achieve success. He served onboard multiple ships throughout many military engagements most during the Vietnam War. He was awarded multiple military honors during war and peacetime. During his final phase of enlistment, he was recognized for his outstanding achievement as a top recruiter, responsible for the enlistment of hundreds of brave men and women into the US Navy. Bob served and protected his beloved USA while providing for his family with 24 years of honorable military service and another 20 years of civil service in the Department of the Treasury.
Bob was preceded in passing by his wife Gloria, brother Marcelino, sisters Maria and Vicky, and eldest daughter Hope. He is survived by his children Dian, Louis "Skip, Januario "Jan", Adriano Jr. "Andy" and Armand "Tony", 17 grandchildren, 27great grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing and Rosary will be held Sunday, December 5, 2021, 4 - 7 pm at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale, AZ. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, December 6, 2021, at 10:00 AM at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 16245 N 60th St., Scottsdale, AZ. Bob will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Gloria at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 6, 2021, at the Heritage Memorial Cemetery in Dewey, AZ.

"Hey Dad,
I love you. Please say hello to mom for me and tell her I love her. I'll miss you both this Christmas, but will be comforted by knowing you will both be celebrating or Lord's birth together.
I'm sure she knows, but share with her how the family has grown since she departed...now up to 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren (and more soon), plus 6 great-great grandchildren.
