November 24, 2021: Doris is predeceased by her husband, Roy Peck. She is survived by her children, Jean (Tom) Minkau, Gordon Peck, Sharon Penta, Linda Fry, Ann (Joey) Harrell; grandchildren, Ben Minkau, Jere (Brooke) Minkau, Gregory Peck, Emily Peck, Steven Penta, Jeffrey (Brent) Penta, James Fry, Mark Fry, Jody (Cyndi) Harrell, Ashley (Jared) Bertram; sister, Jean (Ken) Ward; also survived by, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild, several nieces, nephews, cousins & dear friends.

Doris's funeral service will be celebrated, at the Funeral Home, 1411 Vintage Lane, (Between 390 Long Pond Rd.), Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at 11 AM. Her burial will immediately follow in Falls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005 in Doris's memory.



Doris Peck's Life Story

On March 19, 1934, Doris Peck was born in Rochester, NY to parents Emma and Joseph Mungenast. She enjoyed an active childhood, spending time fishing and boating at their family cottage on Port Bay.

As a teenager, Doris performed in many school plays and was a member of the choir. Not only was she talented on stage, but Doris also loved to ride motorcycles and watch motorcycle hill climbs.

Doris grew up to be a skilled and compassionate nurse. After earning her credentials as a Nurse LPN, she worked at Monroe County Hospital. Doris later went on to work in private practice with Dr. Johantgen and continued her work into the evening hours as a private nurse. She continued working outside the home until she had her fourth child, at which point she chose to stay home as a domestic engineer. Once her children had all entered high school, Doris worked part time at Convenient Food Mart.

Doris was a devoted mother. She had four children; Jean, Gordon, Sharon, and Linda, in addition to a beloved stepdaughter, Ann, who lives in Florida. Doris extended her maternal kindness to one of Sharon's friends, too, who was welcomed into the family and treated just like another daughter. Doris eventually let the children get a guinea pig for a pet and later arranged for a dog, Barney, to join the family. A stray dog came along after that, too. She was a welcoming and generous soul who extended kindness to all those around her.

Before Doris met her future husband, Roy, she was an avid traveler. After they married, they continued to nourish her love of travel, together. Along with the Monroe County Color Guard, they traveled to many places. Doris loved her time spent in Nashville, but when they went to Hawaii, she said it was "the best time of her life". Later in life, she took great joy in entertaining the grandkids with exciting stories from her traveling days.

Doris was an active member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She loved planning the seasonal parties and events throughout the years. Even as she got older, Doris took an active role performing in plays. She never lost her sense of enjoyment for music, dancing, and partying!

Doris was a fan of many forms of entertainment - from big band music to Hallmark movies. She liked listening to the blues, country music, and classic 50s rock and roll. Her favorite artists included Elvis Presley, Kenny Rogers, Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Charlie Pride, The Judds, and Conway Twitty. She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, NCIS, Blue Bloods, and David Letterman, but none of these compared to her favorite movie of all time - Love Me Tender. (She saw it in theatres 5 times!) When she was outdoors, Doris gardened, taking special care for her beloved roses.

Doris was a great host, having people over to her home all the time - the more the merrier was her attitude towards company. People always wanted to be around her because she had that rare gift of making every person in the room feel special and valued. It was as if each time you encountered Doris, she was waiting all along just to see you again.

When Doris experienced a major stroke in 1997, she was hospitalized for some time. Even then, her warmth shone through to the nurses and aides who looked forward to stopping by her room each day. Doris was a positive and strong person, who never complained even as she endured everything that came along with the stroke. She as kind, caring, and so loveable even if you had only just met her.
