Gary A. Schlapia, 68, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday evening, November 16, 2021, as the result from injuries received in an automobile accident.
A graveside service and burial with a gathering of friends and family will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at 10:30 A.M., at Mount Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa, IA. Cremation has taken place. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.
Gary Allen Schlapia was born on August 27, 1953, to Lowell L. and Louella Faye (Schnoor) Schlapia. He was a US Navy Veteran and was honorably discharged.
Gary had worked as a welder in the field of agriculture for John Deere for 15 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and nature. He also loved to work with wood, and he could build just about anything.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, Matt (Dawn) Schlapia of Moline, IL; 2 grandchildren, Avery and Riley Schlapia; a sister, Debbie (Bill) Roethler of Davenport, IA; and nieces and nephew.
