A week ago Jamey was singing with us all at the Legion meeting as we began with the hymn Great Is Thy Faithfulness. And Jamey was faithful in a lot of ways- bringing Taps to the Memorial Day services, serving with the American Legion, all his work with the church, for years. He knew serving was his calling- all way to foreign lands to build housing for people who had none. Just a quick phone call and he delivered a new flag to the school. We miss him, too. Memorial services will be held at the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Walter Reemtsma presiding. There will be a visitation starting Saturday morning at 9:30 A.M. until time of services at the church. Inurnment will be in the Burt Township Cemetery.
James Joseph "Jamey" Jensen was born on November 20, 1943 to Roy and Bernice (Elvidge) Jensen in Algona, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm located near Lone Rock, Iowa and graduated from Sentral High School in 1961. Following high school, Jamey attended and graduated from the Hamilton Business College in Mason City, Iowa.
Jamey enlisted in the United States Army in 1962 and served stateside until his deployment to South Korea. He received an honorable discharge in August of 1965. Jamey was united in marriage to Jeanette Hanna on December 1, 1963 in Burt, Iowa.
Jamey worked in plant operations for Wilson and Company over an eleven-year period out of Albert Lea, MN; Chicago, IL; and Oklahoma City, OK. In 1976, he returned to Lone Rock and began farming on the family farm while working as a credit manager with John Morrell in Estherville, IA. He transitioned with the company to Sioux Falls, SD and later to Cincinnati, OH. On September 2, 1989, Jamey united in marriage to Florence Anderson in Estherville. Upon marrying, they lived and farmed near Lone Rock.
He was well-traveled and served on multiple trips with Habitat for Humanity Global Village, both in the United States and throughout the world. Jamey was an avid collector of Red Wing pottery, enjoyed doing puzzles, and rarely missed coffee with his friends at the multiple coffee groups he attended daily. He was a member of the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church, the Lone Rock American Legion Kerr-Hammerstrom Post #577, and the Carter-Stott VFW Post #5236 of Burt.
Jamey died Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. He was 77 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Florence of Lone Rock; four daughters, Brenda Jensen of Sioux Falls, SD, Julie (Chuck) Myrbo of Oklahoma City, OK, Amanda Jensen (Greg Atkinson) of Jefferson City, MO, and Ann Jensen of Oklahoma City; step-son, Garet (Brenda) Egel of Lynn Center, IL; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger Jensen; sister, Marjorie Deardorff; and granddaughter, Solstice Jensen.
