In loving memory of

Patricia Anne Kopen

Patricia (Pat) Anne Kopen, 85, went to be with the Lord on the morning of July 10th, with her daughters by her side. She had been widowed thirteen years prior after being married to Dr. Gary Kopen for 46 years.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, to Isadore and Helen Tomczyk, Pat attended Dominican High School, and later graduated from the University of Detroit with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
She worked for a spell in Ann Arbor, Michigan, at Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals, where that certain young man sought her hand in marriage. Having won the prize, the two married in 1961 and immediately moved to the Valley of the Sun, where they swore they would never shovel snow again. Over the course of many years, Pat ran the front office of her husband's family practice, served in all elected offices of the Auxiliary to the American Osteopathic Association, gave her time and talent to the Junior Achievement program at Washington High School, acted as Parliamentarian for several nurses' organizations, and volunteered for Hospice of the Valley. Her love of Basset Hounds, of which she had several over the years, brought her great joy, and she was in charge of the Valley Del Sol Bassett Hound Club newsletter for some time. She went on to become a tax preparer at H&R Block for 24 years. Eventually she decided to open her own tax preparation business where she continued to serve her clients with accuracy and integrity for another ten years before she fully retired.
A long time parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church, she found great comfort in her Catholic faith, and was also a companion with the local Crosier Community. She and Gary were avid travelers, and travelled to 56 countries, with New Zealand and Croatia tied as their favorites.
But above all the activities that filled her life, Pat was a devoted wife and incredible mom, and she will be missed by her adored brother, John Tomczyk and his wife Cynthia, and their family, and by her two daughters, Kathryn Nemeth (husband Bill, grandchildren Christopher, Samuel, and Lianna) and Suzanne Lozano (husband Hector, grandchildren Christine and her husband Thomas Lillibridge, Lauren, and Joaquin. A rosary will be held Friday November 5th 2021 at 6pm with a service on Saturday November 6th at 10:30am at Hansen Mortuary 8314 N. 7th Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85020.
