Patricia Ann Zander
February 9, 1938 - October 25, 2021

Patricia Ann "Pat" Zander, age 83, of Quincy, died Monday (October 25, 2021) at 5:45 a.m. in the Good Samaritan Home.

Pat was born February 9, 1938 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Adam A. and Mildred L. Neuer Echternkamp. She married Rowen J. Zander on May 29, 1993 at Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ in Quincy, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 2, 2011

Pat was a 1956 graduate of Quincy High School. She received her bachelors degree in education from Culver-Stockton College, and she received her masters degree in counseling from the University of Illinois.

Pat began her teaching career in Liberty, Missouri before returning to Quincy to teach kindergarten at Franklin School. She then taught school in Lombard, Illinois while also attending Northern Illinois University to receive her Special Education certification. When Pat returned to Quincy, she taught EMH/Special Education at Franklin, Webster and Jackson schools. She then began teaching reading, under Title I, making her a traveling teacher through the grade schools in Quincy, until her retirement in 1993. After her retirement, Pat sold real estate for eight years.

Pat was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority at Culver-Stockton College. She was active in the Council for Exceptional Children and the Illinois Reading Council. Pat was a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). In her retirement, she was an active as a member of PEO Chapter F and in the Culver-Stockton Alumni Association.

Pat was a long time member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ, where she was confirmed in 1952. She remained active at Salem through the years and was involved with the Salem Young Adults, the Women's Evening Guild, she was very active on committees, served as an elder, and was a former council member. She and Rowen were active together in the couple's club.

Pat enjoyed music, especially show tunes, and going to the theater. She also liked going out to dinner and traveling. Pat would play card games, board games or any type of game.

Survivors include two children, Wes (Miley) Zander of Branson, MO, and Jennifer Zander of Quincy; six grandchildren, Kelsey Owsley of Colorado, Abigal Zander, Gabrielle (Jordan) Russell, and Lucy Clark, all of Springfield, MO, and Erik and Zachary Zander, both of Branson, MO; a great-grandson, Easton; a great-granddaughter, Quinn; and her dear friend, Charlotte Tournear of Quincy; and numerous cousins.

In addition to her husband, Rowen, Pat was preceded in death by parents, a brother, Donald Echternkamp, and her dear friend John Tournear.

Services: Friday (October 29, 2021) at 3:00 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Chaplain Josh Vahle officiating..

Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois

Visitation: Friday (October 29, 2021) from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
