Margaret "Peggy" Hammond Saurwein, 97, of Barrington, died October 17, 2021 in Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. Born in Long Island, NY, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Marjorie (Graham) Hammond of Hammond Maps and Atlas.
Ms. Saurwein worked as an X-Ray Technician and Medical Secretary in New York City for Dr. Stephen White. She later worked in the Graphic Arts Dept. for the former Sanders Co., now B.A.E Electronics in New Hampshire. Peggy enjoyed the ocean, beaches, her stays in New Hampshire, baking, and cooking. She had a passion for thoroughly reading and studying any cookbook she could get in her hands.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Margot Murphy and her husband, Joseph, of Gilmanton, NH; her son, George Saurwein and his partner, Catherine Rowe, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; and her sister, Patricia Foot of Orleans, Massachusetts. She was the mother of the late Eric Saurwein and Lisa Pajeski, and the sister of the late Jane Hamilton.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, November 13, 2021 beginning with visitation at 1PM followed by a service at 1:30PM in St. John's Episcopal Church, 191 County Rd, Barrington, RI 02806. Burial will follow in the parish memorial garden. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St John's Church, Barrington, RI.
