John E. "Papa" Scharf Jr., 81, of Fort Dodge passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 20th at 10:30 AM Chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home with Rev. Kendall Meyer, officiating, Visitation 4:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at Laufersweiler Funeral Home.
Survivors include his daughters Dianna "Jim" Georg of Fort Dodge, Sherry "Ken" Lile of Lincoln, NE, son Johnny "Kelly" Scharf of Fort Dodge, stepsons Brad Mayefske of Fort Dodge and Bobby Mayefske of Tulsa, OK; 8 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren with one more on the way; 3 great-great grandchildren and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents John E. and Mardell (Meyers) Scharf Sr., sisters Joan LaForge and Pauline Colwell.
John Ernst Scharf Jr. was born on March 30, 1940 in Fort Dodge. He attended schools here and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1958. John immediately went to work at U.S.G. where he retired from as a supervisor after 40 years. Papa loved time spent with his family, helping them with handyman projects. He did some remodeling of homes in his retirement, but his favorite thing was helping bar tend at Buck's Fireside Lounge from 2:00 to 6:00 PM where he could talk to and see his friends. Papa enjoyed watching Hallmark Christmas movies or old westerns.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

"I have sooo many fond memories of papa first I want to say what a wonderful family he has n I am so blessed to be part of this family he enjoyed life he was so much fun to be around loved his party?s out on his acreage , all the fun we had at bucks bar taking him out for lunch , n just sitting watching tv with him , I?m going to miss him so much especially staying with him, it?s just not going to be the same without you papa I love you to the moon n back you are my sunshine, Rest In Peace , until we see each other again, godbless you xoxoxo???"
