In loving memory of

Janet C. Nelson
July 6, 1934 - October 12, 2021

Janet C. (Atkins) Nelson, 87, left this earthly world on October 12,2021 at 2:20 AM
and was reunited with her youngest son Jay, her oldest brother Robert Atkins, sister Phyllis Bennett, and her parents Ernest R. & Anna (Owen) Atkins. Her family takes comfort that she no longer has to suffer anymore after years of poor health.

Janet was born on July 6, 1934 in Marion, Indiana. She graduated from Van Buren High School in 1952. She married Jerry L. Nelson on Sept 4, 1955. They were married 55 years.

Her children hit the jackpot when it came to mothers. She supported them unconditionally in everything they did. She was the first one up and the last one to go to bed. Janet was down to earth and didn't like to be in the spotlight. Janet was a hardworking farmers wife who could put the animals back in when they got out, sold milk and eggs from the family farm and was well know for her famous homemade noodles and angel food cakes. She could cook like no other, making most meals from scratch. She enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids at the Grant County Fair.
Janet worked at Indiana Bell from 1954-1955 and at Taylor University from 1991-2000 when she suffered a brain aneurysm. Janet was a loyal friend and Christian woman, attending Jefferson Christian Church for many years and Red River Community Church. The family would like to thank al her care givers over the years especially Irene Nelson, Joni Glover, and Millers's Merry Manor in Hartford City.

Janet is survived by daughter Joni Lynn (Rev. Charles) Glover; sons John M. (Irene)
Nelson Jonesboro, Joe Nelson Upland; special son Arvo (Helena) Lehtovirta of Finland; grandchildren, Shaun (Jordan) Nelson, Ryan (Kristy) Nelson, Kyle (Brittany) Nelson, Lydia (Chris) Stovall, Kara (Josh) Huff, Susan Glover, Paul (Etta) Glover, Zack Thompson, Jasmine Nelson, and Austin Haydel and too many great grandkids to list.
Brother Larry (Vickie) Atkins, sisters-in-law, Barbara (Robert) Atkins, and Ruth Ann (Willard) Rust; brother-in-Law, Frank (Phyllis) Bennett; and many nieces and nephews;
dear friends Betty Ferree, Doris Hodupp, & Linda Howe.

She was preceded in death also by good friends Ruth Montgomery, Dorothy Atkinson, Chris Harrison & Blanche Reid.

Services for Janet will be at Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 259 N. Main Street, Upland, Indiana. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 14 from 11 Am to 1:30 PM, with a funeral to celebrating Janet's life at 1:30 PM with Pastor Mark Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Cemetery in Upland.

Irene Nelson wrote on Oct 12, 2021:

"Janet was such a precious soul. She was the best Mother in law anyone could ever have. She was the best at everything, especially being a Grandma. When Kyle was younger, if he got a splinter in his hand or finger, he had to jump on his bike and go to Grandma's because she was the best at getting splinters out. She had a magnifying glass. She was just a very special loving, caring, giving person. Always trying to make everyone happy. And then Jesus took her hand and said " Come with me good and faithful servant". And her suffering is over. "
