In loving memory of

Daniel K. Miller
December 17, 1949 - October 8, 2021

Daniel K. Miller 71, of Fairmount, Indiana died Friday, October 8th, 2021 in his residence in the care of Visiting Nurse Hospice Care.

Dan was born on December 17, 1949 to the late Robert and Marguerite Miller. He was a graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School. He was formally trained as a disc jockey, and worked for AM 1400 WBAT and later on a part time basis for FM 93.5 WWWO. Dan retired from the United States Postal Service in 2014 after many years as a rural route letter carrier. He was forever explaining from memory, where people lived, their types of dogs, and if their dogs enjoyed dog biscuits. Dan is survived by his daughter Wendy (Jim) Longacre and son Max (Jill) Miller, grandchildren Cory and Sloane Longacre, and Riley, Jax, and Sullivan Miller.

Dan enjoyed classic cars and Corvettes in particular. If automobiles could be listed as children, he would have been survived by a 1957 Chevy Bel Air, a 1977 Corvette, and 2008 Corvette. He was a Lionel train hobbyist, but please do not get him started on that topic or readers may die of boredom.

Dan is a testament of resiliency. While the most hopeful doctors gave him months to live after surviving two heart attacks, congestive heart, and the discovery of stage four prostate cancer, he survived and thrived for 7 full years after diagnosis. Dan would enter his appointments greeting the health care staff, whom he grew to love, smiling and saying, "I am still here!".

Upon transfer to hospice care, Wendy and Max listed his accomplishments with pride: he bought his dream Corvette, he watched the Cubs win the World Series, he loaded up his kids and grandkids for haunted train rides and baseball games and dinners out. He watched with delight as Riley was handed a ball from Anthony Rizzo at a Cubs game. He saw grandparents' days and more car shows than can be counted. He stayed with friends in Florida during the coldest part of winter. He attended a Bob Segar concert with Max, one of the best in his opinion. He did his best to love and to be attentive in the lives of his children and grandchildren.

Services for Dan have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 12th, 2021 at 2:00 PM in Park Cemetery Fairmount, IN. Car enthusiasts are encouraged to drive their Corvettes or classic cars and to listen to the Beach Boys on what is sure to be a beautiful afternoon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

"Wendy & Max, I'm so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. I have many fond memories of Girl Scout & slumber party activities with your dad and that old Bronco (I think) that seemed like it could have carried all the thin mints and trefoil cookies in the world at that time. Prayers for your whole family."
