Richard Dale Sherman, Sr., 77, passed away at his Marion home on Friday, October 1, 2021. Richard was born on June 5, 1944, to the late Orville and Ruth Mae Sherman. He attended Marion High School and then went on to work as a construction worker and eventually retired as a recycling attendant from Marion Municipal Utilities. Richard was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, at one point serving as an Officer of Arms. A man who liked to stay busy, Richard enjoyed having yard sales as often as he could. He enjoyed fishing as well, however, his favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren, whom he loved with all his heart.
Richard is survived by his lifelong partner, Janice Roesly; children, Rodney (Rebecca) Sherman, and Laura (Jose) Yguanzo; step-sons, Sparky, Kevin, and Todd Roesly; grandchildren, Marcus, Demetree, Jay, Corey, Lacey, Ashley, James, Eric, Ryan, and Cole; siblings, Ruth (Randy) Reynolds, and David, Robert, and Orville Sherman; and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Ruth; son, Richard D. Sherman, Jr.; grandson, Richard D. Sherman, III; and sisters, Virginia Mae Sherman, Mary Doris Sherman, Betty Lou Sherman, Irene Mayo, and Janet Blackburn.
Arrangements for Richard have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana, where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8, 2021. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Sweetser.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
