Mary A. Melanson, 79, formerly of Plainfield, CT, a resident of Cumberland since 2016, died September 28, 2021 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Melanson. Born in Nova Scotia, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Burton and Stella (McNamara) Vance.
Mrs. Melanson worked as a CNA prior to raising her family. She was a volunteer for the Firemans Ladies Auxiliary, Plainfield, CT, enjoyed playing BINGO and the color purple. Mary was a major Elvis Presley fan, and most of all, she loved being with her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan Kennedy and her boyfriend, Wallace Valentine, of Cumberland, RI; two sons, William B. Melanson of Kodak, TN, and Vance A. Melanson and his wife, Victoria, of Gloucester, VA; two granddaughters, Katelyn Kennedy and Emily Melanson; and a great granddaughter, Stella Kennedy. She also leaves extended family here, as well as, in Canada.
Her funeral will be held Friday, October 1, 2021 beginning with a Service at 5 PM, followed by visitation until 7 PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, RI. Burial will be Saturday at 9:30 AM in St. Josephs Cemetery, 815 Boswell Ave., Norwich, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd. STE 3004, Warwick, RI 02886.
