James E. Mullaly

James E. Mullaly, 72, of Millville, MA died peacefully on Friday April 9, 2021 following a long illness. Born in Woonsocket, RI, he was the son of the late James E. and Frances A. (Trainor) Mullaly.

Jim was a 1966 graduate of St. Marys Central Catholic High School, Milford, MA. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Worcester State College in 1970 and earned his Masters of Science in Education degree in 1976. For the entirety of his professional career, Jim worked in the Bellingham Public School system beginning in 1970, first as a teacher, and retiring in 2006 as the principal of the former South Elementary School.

Jim served in the Army National Guard 181st Engineer Battalion Company. He was an active communicant of St. Augustines Church Millville, MA, where he was a eucharistic minister, and was a member of its St. Vincent de Paul Society, as well as the Knights of Columbus. Jim also dedicated his time to his community as a eucharistic minister at Landmark Medical Center. He served on the Blackstone-Millville Regional School Committee for 14 years, and was a Millville Public Library Trustee for 28 years. Jim was a member of the Retired State and Municipal Employees of MA. He had also formerly worked as a swim instructor for many years, at the Woonsocket YMCA.

Jim was an avid traveler and he especially loved taking cruises to the Caribbean. He was known to all as a kind and compassionate man, who was completely devoted to his friends and family.

He leaves his sister, Mary Gelineau of Blackstone, MA, his niece, Lisa Mendes and her husband, David, of Blackstone, MA, and his great niece, Sarah Mendes of Blackstone, MA. He was predeceased by his brother in law, James Gelineau.

His funeral will be held Friday, April 16, 2021 beginning at 9:30 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main Street, Woonsocket, RI followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Augustines Church, 15 Lincoln Street, Millville, MA. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Thursday April 15, 2021 from 5-7 PM in the Holt Funeral Home.
