Richard B. Tooher, 78, of Cranston passed away suddenly, November 10, 2018 in Naples, FL. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Alfred) Tooher. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late William and Muriel (Bourne) Tooher.

Richard graduated from Roger Williams University with an Associates degree in Criminal Justice. He worked for the Providence Police Department for twenty years, retiring as Detective. Following his retirement, he served as the Police Chief for the Glocester Police Department for three years. Richard was a member of the F.O.P. #3, Providence, the Smithfield Elks club, Providence Police Union, a former member of the Glocester Country Club and the Lions club where he was given the honor of receiving the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.Richard operated a fried dough trailer in his spare time at Rockwell Amusements for nine years. He enjoyed traveling New England, golfing and wintering in Naples, FL with his wife for the last twenty years.

Besides his wife, Mary Ann, Richard is survived by his four children, Cathleen Ibinez of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Karen Mael of Orange City, FL; Paul Johnson of North Smithfield and Dawn Lopez, and her husband, John,of Johnston; one brother, Edmund Tooher of Cape Neddick, ME; three grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and William Tooher and one sister, Jean Tooher Bellucci.

His funeral will be held Friday, November 16, 2018, at 9 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Patricks Church, 2068 Cranston St., Cranston. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 300 5th Avenue, Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451.
