February 28, 1925 - September 27, 2021

Evelyn Wendell, 96, of Fort Dodge passed away Monday, September 27, 2021 at Fort Dodge Health and Rehab.

A memorial service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 5, 2021 in the chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in North Lawn Cemetery.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Toni Schmalen (Rick Ayala) of Fort Dodge, Francis "Butch" (Linda) Blair of Webster City, and son-in-law, Danny Klein of Fort Dodge; stepchildren, Dan "Mike" Wendell, Tim Wendell, and Lori (Mike) Dutcher; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Smith Sr. and Bessie (Hunefeld) Dumdei; husbands, Robert Blair and Ray Wendell; children, Roberta "Bobbie" Blair and Linda Klein; siblings, Victor "Louis" Smith, Frank Smith, Jr. and Gertrude Pierce; son-in-law, Mark Schmalen; and step-son, Pat Wendell.

Evelyn Rose Smith was born February 28, 1925 in Fort Dodge. She worked several jobs throughout her life but specialized in loving and caring for her family. In 1946, she was united in marriage to Robert C. Blair. They raised 1 son and 3 daughters together. Eventually the couple divorced. In 1968, she was united in marriage to Ray Wendell and Evelyn gained four step-children.

Evelyn loved to play BINGO, crafting, and running errands for her children and grandchildren. She loved doing anything for her family. Evelyn was an amazing cook and was well-known for her monthly "care packages". She had a great sense of humor and wit and would surprise you with the things she would say. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
