Visitation will be held from 12 - 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at First Lutheran Church in Algona.

Lyle Willard Bensen was born on May 9, 1934, in Ringsted, the only son of Roy and Florence (Nelson) Bensen. He was baptized and confirmed in the St. John's Lutheran Church. He graduated from Ringsted High School in 1952 and from Reisch School of Auctioneering in Mason City.

Lyle's career of farming was interrupted by a call to serve in the army from 1957-1959.

In 1960, Lyle was united in marriage to Diane Fischer, a Ringsted teacher.

He found success and pleasure in life as a landowner, auctioneer, and a lifetime cattleman. He served as an auctioneer in the following sale barns: Armstrong, Truman, Algona, Storm Lake, Sioux Center, Fort Dodge, Bloomfield, Wesley, Sheldon, Garner, Emmetsburg, and Spencer.

Lyle was a member of the Ringsted Presbyterian Church for 42 years and joined the Algona First Lutheran Church in May of 2003, when he and his wife, Diane, moved to Algona.

In his retirement, Lyle became a voracious reader of inspirational books and took pride in caring for his lawn and property.

Lyle died Monday, September 27, 2021 at Windsor Manor in Algona. He was 87.

He is survived by nieces and nephews, David (Marci) Sabin of Menagha, MN, Peg (Dave) Skilling of Algona, Sandi Mueller of Penn Valley, CA, Ron (Carmeen) Pertl of Indianapolis, IN, Mary (Dan) Laffey of Birmingham, AL, Jane (Kevin) Naig of Columbia, SC; and many friends.

"These are little things he gave me bc he always worried about me driving out on the road by myself so he gave me these matches in case I needed to start a fire to stay warm. This tire pressure gage so my tires were safe and the road atlas so I wouldn\'t get lost. I wanted him to know I keep them very close always and of course your Bible?? I\'m making you proud and making you happy?"

"Any body that knew Lyle, knew he married his perfect soul mate. They loved sharing their knowledge and love of raising cattle to roses! They both took great pride in everything they did. When I had to give a speech, Diane would proof read it, help me with wording it properly and then I had to read it to Lyle! They always gave you encouragement and shared their deep faith with you and told you to never give up! These two made me better, and made the world a better place! They will be greatly missed, but Heaven just got a new angel, Lyle, I hope to see you again someday, say Hello to Mrs B and God bless you both!"

"Lyle was a kind and caring man. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. I remember helping my dad by finding and tips of when to sell cattle. He helped me purchase my home. Diane and Lyle were special couple. Rest in peace. "

"Lyle was such an awesome man who lived his faith. He didn?t need to tell you he was a man of God, you could tell through his actions. Two things that come to my mind are the Bible?s Lyle and Diane would collect and pay the postage to send across seas. They also would buy clothes when they were on sale and send to orphanages. I was in a group with Diane and 2 other ladies, we would go on fun adventures or have luncheons at each other?s homes. It was Diane?s turn to host our group at their home, Lyle deep fat fried us some Danish goodies . They were awesome. I am a better person because Lyle and Diane were in my life. Lyle is with the love of his life now, right after Jesus said, ?welcome good and faithful servant?. Thank you, God for putting Lyle and Diane in my life many years ago. ???? "
