Williamsburg- Lucille Madoerin Bell was born January 18, 1926 in York Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Adolph and Ida (Newkirk) Hudepohl. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School, graduated from Williamsburg High School and Cedar Rapids Business School. Lucille was united in marriage to Bernard Madoerin on August 18, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. To this union they were blessed with two children. Bernard died on June 17, 1962. Later in life Lucille was united in marriage to Dale Bell on December 22, 1978 in her home near Williamsburg.
She and Dale enjoyed hosting others in their home through Lucille's 'Bett und Breakfast' and many holiday, card, Red Hat luncheons, and choir parties. Lucille was a life member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. She received much joy from singing with family, in the church and community choirs, sextet and Sweet Adelines. She also shared her German heritage through song while giving bus tours of the Amana colonies.
Lucille's strong faith, love of family and giving spirit was evident in all aspects of her life. She enjoyed serving others by volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Hospice and Mercy Hospital Gift Shop as well as baking treats and sending notes of encouragement.
Lucille loved people, loved the Lord and always accredited her strength and the good in her life through the phrase 'Only by the Grace of God'.
Lucille passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 95.
She is survived by her two children, Duane (Diane) Madoerin of Webster City and Carol (Ross Henderson) Madoerin of Seattle, Washington; three grandchildren, Tonya (Bruce) Franken, Jason (Bonnie) Madoerin and Brent Madoerin Henderson; great grandchildren, Hannah (Jordan) Dyck, Allison Franken, William Franken, Roman (fiancé Rosie) Madoerin and Raegan Madoerin. She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a granddaughter Sarah Madoerin Henderson, two step sons Larry Bell and Rick Bell and siblings Orville Hudepohl, Reno Hudepohl, Irma Wardenburg, Minerva Schmidt and Alice Rudin.
Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lutheran Interparish School or Camp Io-Dis-E-Ca. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
