"I am so sorry to hear of John?s passing. He had such a quirky sense of humor - just like a big teddy bear. Prayers and sympathy to his family. Another gone too soon ??"

"Robin and family, so sorry to hear about John. John was one of my best friends and companion through high school and beyond. Always a great conversationalist and walking encyclopedia for useless trivia, John was quite the comedian. I will miss his gentle demeanor and his distinctive laugh. "

Paul Custer wrote on Sep 22, 2021:

"He loved to explain things (in 20 seconds or so) ?Hi everybody? with a cigarette in hand and six presents under arm Letting in the cold, as Andrew and Abby trundled under arm, corralled by Robin Past the dessicated turkey and amorphous stuffing And the Jesus clock??close the door!? He loved cards and Cardinals and Donald Duck He was gentle, he was kind, he was funny Cared about what mattered, not about what didn?t stood his ground without bruising it? Even the smoke liked him And everybody loved him. And when a good man dies, One hears in birdsong A daylong lament For the prosy and leaden bend Of a shrunken world."

"I was friends with John in high school and at UNI. He used to give me rides back home for visits in his VW Beetle. He would always help me carry my suitcase up three flights of dorm stairs while singing ?The Long and Winding Road? at top volume. He was a great guy, and so much fun. My sincere sympathies to his family."

"John would gas up his mail vehicle @ our station every morning. When he'd come in the door we'd start singing an oldie but goodie classic. He loved it & would join in. What fond memories of a great guy. . ."
