Theo Blyn Gray
August 4, 1931 - September 13, 2021

Theo Blyn Gray, age 90, of Kyle, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 13, 2021. She was born August 4, 1931, in Bastrop TX to John B. Reid and Lou Vellor Sturdivant Reid. She was raised on a farm in Cedar Creek and attended the Bastrop Schools up until the 9th grade. Theo married Howard Holder at an early age of 15. They lived and worked their farm in Cedar Creek TX. After the birth of Blynda and Donnie, Theo began working at the Texas Dept. of Public Welfare in Austin. Howard and Theo divorced in 1965.

Theo moved from Cedar Creek to South Austin in 1965 with her daughter Blynda and son, Donnie. She continued working at Texas Dept of Public Welfare as a single parent. She met and married the love of her life, Darrell, in 1968. Shortly thereafter, together they started Gray Electronics--a video and security equipment services company. They worked alongside each other every day for more than 40 years. Theo would often reminisce about that wonderful time in her life.

Although Theo had a passion for her job and worked tirelessly at it, what gave meaning to her life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Spending time with her family gave Theo the greatest joy. She had many family photos on display in her home. She welcomed the opportunity to share--in her very quiet and reserved way--a little memory about each one of them.

Theo is survived by her son Donnie Holder and wife Debbie; granddaughter Carinda Sherk and husband John and their four children Chris, Stephen, Katie, and Daniel; grandson Aaron Holder and wife Samantha and their three sons Carter, Isaac, and Elijah; as well as sisters, Billy Marie Robinson, Lucy Stephens and husband Clifford and many nieces and nephews.

Theo was preceded in death by her parents, John B. and Lou Vellor Reid, devoted husband Darrell D Gray, daughter Blynda Brooks and her husband Dennis, brothers Johnny B. Reid, Donald Gene Reid, Jimmy D. Reid and sisters Bennie Lou Alexander and Essie Ann Richards.

The family would like to thank the staff of Orchard Park-Assisted Living & Memory Care facility in Kyle for their loving care of Theo over the past six years. Special thanks to Kathy, Jenny, Sharon, Donna and many others who went out of their way to assist Mrs. Theo. We would also like to thank the staff at Amedisys Hospice Pallative Care with special attention to Annette for making that special bond with Theo as a friend and comforter during the COVID shutdowns. Thanks also go out to Pastor Buddy Johnson and the First Baptist Church in Buda where Darrell and Theo were long time members.

Visitation will be held at 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 23--both at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle. Interment will follow at the Kyle Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be entered into Theo's guestbook at www.harrellfuneralhomes.com.
