Tributes

Rev. Rob Hartmann wrote on Jan 7, 2023:

"MY name is Rev. Rob Hartmann. I was called by Salem United Church of Christ in Quincy, IL to be the Associate Pastor in 1989 and then called to be the Senior Pastor leaving there January 1997. I am very late in writing this tribute not knowing Dean had died. I have a winter painting of Dean's hanging on my wall he gave me when I was the pastor at Salem. Seeing the painting today, I thought I would google his name and found that Dean had died. I don't know if Sue is still living, but I will say this, Dean and Sue were a VERY positive presence at Salem and in my life as the pastor. Dean was level headed - kind and had a great heart. Dean and Sue have been and always will be in my memories and my heart. I am retired now leaving St. Louis where I was the Manager of Pastoral Care Services at Saint Louis University Hospital moving and now living in Henderson, Ky. Life does move on, but the one important reality I so often spoke at funerals, is that God has given each of us the greatest gift - unlike human gifts, God's gifts never break, become tattered, or go out of style - that GIFT is the GIFT OF MEMORIES. Thank you Dean (and Sue) for the memories I hold in my heart."
