Muriel S. Douglas, age 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 7 at the Country Cottage in Plainview. Muriel was born on April 1, 1937 in Fountain City, the daughter of Raymond and Janet (Steen) Mueller. She met the love of her life, Paul Douglas, and they were united in marriage on February 1, 1954, in Rochester; together their union was blessed with three children.
Muriel was a homemaker before launching her business, Muriel Douglas' Draperies, in the comfort of her own basement. From there, she eventually grew the business into a location in St. Charles; she successfully ran her drapery business and the Hometown Variety store for many years until selling the business and retiring in 2016.
Muriel enjoyed sewing and quilting as her favorite pastime along with painting. She was also an outstanding cook and was once the winner of a brand-new electric stove because of her award-winning recipes. Above all, Muriel was most proud to be a wife, mom and grandma.
Muriel will always be missed by her husband of 67 years, Paul Douglas; children, Jon (Rita) Douglas of Lewiston, Kellie (Mark) Eggert of Lewiston, Bridget (Brian) Stenzel of Elgin; grandchildren, Lindsey (Marc) Potter, Paul Douglas, Austin, Grant, Blake, & Colten Eggert, Liz (Tyler) Meyers, Megan Stenzel, and Aaron Cowan; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, Shirley (Ronnie) Johnston, Judy Ginther, June (Taisir) Mueller, Gwen Mathers; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended family and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Janet; brothers-in-law, Dick Ginther and Steve Mathers.
Funeral Services for Muriel will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 11, at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewiston. There will be a visitation held for one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at church. Interment will be held at the church cemetery. The Hoff Funeral Home of Lewiston is assisting Muriel's family with arrangements.

"Our most sincere sympathies to Muriels Families. She and Paul outfitted two homes we?ve lived in with draperies and blinds. The product was always well conceived and presented. She was a true professional in her business. We have also missed having them seated in their bench in church, directly in front or behind us, since for health reasons they opted to change the Sunday worship routine. We?ll miss you friend, but we know you are Home. "
"Our thoughts and prayers are being sent?for strength? and know that we are walking beside you during this very difficult time. Muriel and Paul have always been special! I wish I would have been closer to you Bridget, Kelly, and Jon as we were growing up. "
"Muriel was very special to me as she always welcomed me into her home as a close friend of her daughter Bridget. She was kind and always made sure I didn?t leave her home hungry! She had an incredible laugh that I will never forget! And she made me feel completely comfortable as if I were one of her own children! I remember spending many days at the Winona county fair as Muriel was always there volunteering to serve meals and doing various other things where ever she was needed. Sending love and prayers to Paul, Jon, Kelly and Bridget and their families during this difficult time. May you find comfort and peace in your faith and memories. Heather Alden"
