Robert J. Howard
February 20, 1929 - September 6, 2021

Robert Howard, age 92, of Quincy, died Monday, September 6, 2021, at 7:35 am in his home.

Robert was born February 20, 1929 in Oaks, Kentucky, the son of Britt and Linda Miracle Howard. He married Evelyn Behrens on November 20, 1948, in Washington, DC. To this marriage was born a daughter, Vicky Lea Howard. He married Tita Condez on May 6, 1978, in Palmyra, MO. She survives.

Robert grew up in Kentucky. At the age of 17 he joined the US Navy and proudly served until being honorably discharged in 1948. He briefly worked as a cab driver in Washington, DC, before moving to Quincy. He found work in a local factory before getting into the rental business. Together with his wife, Tita, Robert worked on and managed their rental apartments and houses for many years. Robert was a 50 year member and past Master of Quincy Lodge #296 A.F & A.M.

Robert was a hard worker and very much enjoyed working on his rental properties. Being good with his hands he loved to keep busy on building and construction projects, big and small. Later in life, he enjoyed reading, watching television shows about nature, and documentaries.

Survivors in addition to his wife of 43 years, Tita, include: a daughter, Vicky (Richard) Nelson of Quincy; six siblings, Avery (Pat) Howard of Ohio, Henry (Yvonne) Howard of Tennessee, Rosetta Ledford of Tennessee, Imogene Kaufmann of Ohio, Betty Jean Wilson of Tennessee, and Kathleen Hammons of Ohio; two grandchildren Jesse Nelson of Quincy, and Dawn (Art) Dodd of Glendale Heights, IL ; three great grandchildren, Riley Seals, Adam Nelson, and Milo Dodd; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by: his parents; three brothers, Murle, Ledger, and Ewell Howard; a sister, Orean Jackson; and a grandson, Adam Henry Nelson.

Services: Services will begin with Masonic Rites at 10:45 am with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 am Friday, September 10, 2021, in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Monsignor Leo Enlow officiating.

Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 37 and the United States Navy Funeral Honors Detail.

Visitation: 9:30 - 10:45 am Friday September 10, 2021, in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
