Dorothy V. Harris, 96, of Fort Dodge passed away Monday, August 16, 2021 in Journeys at Friendship Haven.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Gregg Harris and Kathy Harris Bunda (Marlin Gubbels) both of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Kris (Holly) Bunda and their children, Ginger, Jack and Max all of Moorland; Kurt Bunda of Rockwell City and his daughter, Kenzie Bunda; Katie Bunda and her son, Nash Heatherington of Fort Dodge; brother, William "Bill" Burger of Palmer, Kansas; sisters-in-law Rhoda Burger, Bernadine Burger and Buenta Burger, as well as 35 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Stella (Jacobs) Burger; husband, Roger A. Harris in 2005; and siblings, Erna Schultze, Edna Koch, Elsie Hiesterman, Herman Burger, Edwin Burger, Clarence Burger, Leroy Burger, Mabel Bunday, and Dale Burger.

Dorothy Vera Burger was born August 12, 1925 in Clay Center, Kansas. She attended schools south of Clay Center at Four Mile School. She eventually followed 2 of her siblings to the Clare/Fort Dodge area, working for her Uncle Art Jacobs. She met her husband Roger Harris and the two were united in marriage on March 19, 1948. They established their home in Fort Dodge. Dorothy worked as a CNA at Lutheran Hospital and then became a homemaker while raising her children. She loved to paint, read, and do crossword puzzles, especially the Sunday ones. She volunteered countless hours at St. Paul Lutheran Church and Camp Okoboji where she would spend her summers with family. She looked forward to the Burger family reunions. Every day she had a glass of Chardonnay at 4:00 "because it's 5 o'clock somewhere!"

Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family.

Memorials may be left to S.O.S., St. Paul Lutheran Church, or Camp Okoboji.

Tributes

Tim Hanneman wrote on Aug 19, 2021:

"Our families lived directly across the street from each other in the 1960s and 1970s on D Street West. My mother and Mrs Harris were both amateur seamstresses, and my mother stood in awe of Mrs. Harris's sewing ability. She (my mother) always claimed that she had never seen anyone who could make her own clothing and have it look so professional as did Mrs. Harris. She kept an immaculate house, and was a truly charming and god-fearing person. The members of the Harris family were all very friendly and neighborly, and my family has many fond memories of this time of our lives. God Bless Mrs. Harris as the family bids her a fond farewell. "
