John Clark Olmstead was born March 4, 1934 in Fort Dodge. He attended Fort Dodge schools and graduated from FDSH in 1952. He then went to Iowa Central Community College and later ISU to study agriculture. John and Betty met at a dance while he was serving in the United States Army stationed in Aberdeen, MD. The couple was united in marriage on May 20, 1956 in Elkton, MD but later made Fort Dodge their home. John surprised many by being a pilot and flying his airplane often. However, his flying days were over after he met Betty. Loving her as he did he hung up his flying jacket and the couple enjoyed over 60 years together. Having a mutual love of dogs, John and Betty raised Irish Setters. The family enjoyed camping and John was an avid hunter and fisherman. John had a long career with Hormel's and later Nissen's.
Memorials may be left to family discretion.

"John was a great neighbor. He never bothered anybody. Charlie would go down several days and help him bring his garbage or re-cycle to the curb in the winter as he struggled with his wheel chair and the snow to get it there!! Everyday his son John would come visit him until his death. R.I.P. John you will be missed."
