"I have such great memories with Joe. He was a huge part of my life, if only for a little while. I am devastated by this news and only hope for peace to his boys and family. I always thought he?d be around and one day we would reconnect. "
Joseph "Joe" Hansen Lower, 41, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was born on January 2, 1980 in Des Moines, Iowa. He lived his early childhood years in Osceola then moved to Des Moines, Iowa. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in 1998 and afterwards attended Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia before returning to Iowa.
Joe was an excellent artist, who specialized in drawing. In his professional career he worked as a graphic designer for a local sign company. Many business and park signs and vehicle wraps seen in the Des Moines area were produced with his creative mind. Joe was a very bright young man who loved to read and listen to music. He was a huge Beatles fan and would sometimes belt out their songs, commenting that he had a 'pretty good voice, right?'. He enjoyed watching Hawkeyes football games and going to concerts with friends and family. He especially loved the time he spent with his sons.
Joe touched many people with his kindness, loyalty and humor. He always had a sarcastic and witty comment to make during a conversation. Even in his last days, when he was in pain he made several nurses and physical therapists laugh with his off-the-cuff replies to their seemingly simple questions.
Joe will be lovingly remembered by his children, Aidan and Elijah, his parents Dr. Thomas J. and Ceree Lower, his siblings Michael Lower, Thomas A. (Kate) Lower, Erin (Dave) Flemmer, Daniel Lower, Jillian Hackley and Jennifer (Hugh) Zey. He will also be fondly remembered by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Lower and grandparents, Joseph and Laurine Lower.
Family and friends are invited to attend his Celebration of Life service Wednesday, August 4th, 2021 at 11:00 am at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Pkwy, West Des Moines, Iowa. "Joe was more than a big brother. He was a good man and a good role model. He taught me how to stand up for myself angainst anyone. He taught me early on how to talk to people, (even women!), how to understand my challenges and how to overcome them. There will never be another like him. I\'ll miss him always"
