Denise Stevenson, 61, of Goldfield, Iowa and Anthem, Arizona passed away July 17th, 2021 in Scottsdale, Arizona after a short but fierce battle with aggressive leukemia. She will be greatly missed by family and friends and remembered as a genuinely amazing wife, mother, and grandmother who filled every room with her love, wisdom, and humor.
Denise Lynn Stevenson (Basinger) was born December 9th, 1959 in Des Moines, Iowa to Bill and Jean Basinger. The third child of six, Denise treasured her family and the memories they made while traveling the world as Presbyterian missionaries. At age 8 she moved to Tokyo, Japan where she attended International School of the Sacred Heart for several years. She then spent a year at Goldfield Elementary before she moved to Seoul, South Korea for high school, where she graduated from Seoul Foreign School in 1978.
It was during a family trip to visit grandparents in Goldfield, Iowa in 1977 that she met her soulmate and true love, Mark Stevenson. They became an inseparable pair and were married on May 5th, 1979 in Seoul, South Korea. Mark and Denise returned to Goldfield to build their life on the family farm where they raised two daughters, Jamie and Lisa.
Over their years together Denise and Mark had many adventures, including multiple business ventures, countless trips, and hundreds of memory-filled excursions with their beloved grandchildren. But it was simply being with Mark and her family - wherever and whenever that might be - that Denise loved most.
Denise is survived by her husband of 42 years, Mark; children Jamie (Kirk) Wilson and Lisa Stevenson; grandchildren Erik Wilson, Kalista Wilson, Lila Ruvolo, and Elliotte Ruvolo; mother Jean Basinger; siblings Lori (Gary) Reed, Bryan (Joyce) Basinger, Chris Basinger, and Mike (Liz) Basinger; and her many nieces and nephews who consider her a second mom. Denise was preceded in death by her father, Bill, and brother, Shaun.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends in Goldfield, Iowa at a later date.
