Elmer Charles Crohn
September 21, 1929 - July 11, 2021

Elmer Charles Crohn, age 91 of Cumming GA passed into the loving arms of Jesus and was joyously reunited with his beloved Ethel Mae in Heaven early on Sunday July 11, 2021. He was also reunited with his parents, brothers and sisters Elsie & Carolyn.

He is survived by his children Dana (Linda) Crohn, Allen (Linda) Crohn, David Crohn, Angela Crohn, Duane (Christy) Crohn, eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and sister Cynthia Anderson.

Elmer was born in Minneapolis, MN barely a month before Black Tuesday sent the world into a tailspin, creating hardship and uncertainty during his early years. His family was fortunate in that his father, Ernest, was an engineer for the railroad. It meant his father wasn't around a lot but it also ensured a measure of security during uncertain times.

Elmer's family moved around a bit, ultimately settling in Columbus Township, MN which is where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Ethel Wenzel. Elmer is known for his musicality and studied trumpet in high school, earning first chair position and student director for the band. He had the opportunity to pursue college and housing free of charge but did not. When asked why he didn't go off to college he simply replied "I was in love".

Elmer was a man of few words, which he said made him a good match for Ethel, who was by contrast never at a lack for them. He had a wicked sense of humor and could quip one-liners in any situation and did this right up until the day before he passed from this earth.

Elmer served active duty and reserves for 30 years in the Navy, retiring as a Yeoman Chief. He wore many other hats as a young man, eventually settling on carpentry and had a general contracting business. His work reflected his attention to detail, identifying him as a Craftsman in the trade. Eventually he switched to property management with the Veteran's Administration as the Chief of Property Management, retiring from there at 55 as GS18, the equivalent of Commander.

It took some convincing, but Ethel finally got her way (as she always did) and the pair retired to Sunbird in Chandler, AZ where they enjoyed many years together golfing, playing cards and socializing, quilting and generally just having a grand time. They moved to Georgia in the fall of 2014, with Ethel passing in February the following year. Elmer next moved into a multi-generational household with his daughter, grand-daughter, her husband, their children and pets. Never one to enjoy a lot of idle time, Elmer filled many days of the next five years doing what he loved best; construction. He and grand son-in-law built an impressive cabana in the back yard as well as a large bar in the basement. He enjoyed living with his family and especially interacting with the four great-grandchildren he saw daily. He will be deeply and dearly missed by his family and friends.

The family will receive friends and family at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GA from 12:00-3:30 on Tuesday, July 20. The funeral will follow at Cumming Baptist Church at 4:00 with Pastor Jamie Archer officiating. The service can be viewed at https://youtu.be/WKNZcKWW740

Elmer will be interred in a military service at the National Cemetery in Canton GA on August 11, 2021.
