John N. Noettl
July 2, 1937 - July 7, 2021

John N. Noettl, 84 of Scottsdale, passed away on July 7, 2021.

John was originally from St. Louis, Missouri where he attended Riverview High School. While there John met his future wife, Beverly. Eventually, they married and went on to have three children. John and Beverly recently celebrated 62 happy years together.

John received a Bachelor's degree in Industrial engineering, and a Master's degree in engineering from Washington University in Clayton, Missouri. After graduation, John entered the United States Army achieving the rank of Captain.

During the 1960's, John was employed by McDonnell Douglas. Using his engineering skills, he worked on research and development of NASA projects, Mercury, Gemini and Apollo. In 1970, John was hired as Director of Operations for the St. Louis American Automobile Association (AAA). During his time at the AAA, John was appointed by the Carter Administration to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

After leaving the AAA, John and family relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona. John became an expert in accident reconstruction, focusing on Jeep rollovers. In 1980, he was interviewed about his rollover expertise on CBS 60 Minutes. John became one of the country's top experts on accidents caused by rollovers and vehicle fires. In Scottsdale, John formed Vehicle Support System. He investigated accidents, researched and gave expert testimony for accident trials.

He was President of VSS until closing business in 2002. He is survived by wife Beverly, daughter Karen, son in law Tom, his son David, daughter in law Dawn and his son Steve.
