In loving memory of

Janice Joleen Throckmorton
October 19, 1938 - July 10, 2021

Janice Joleen Throckmorton was born on October 19, 1938, to Marvin and Lucinda (Rath) Kahl at home in Denison. The family moved to a farm near Deloit and Janice started at a country school; she attended five different country schools during her elementary education. Janice then attended Denison High School for two years and completed her high school education in Charter Oak, graduating with the class of 1956. She then attended Commercial Extension School of Commerce in Omaha, Nebraska, and worked at an insurance office.

Janice was united in marriage to Daniel Throckmorton on April 3, 1960, at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. At that time, Dan was enlisted in the United States Air Force and was sent to Korea for 13 months after Ron was born in September of 1961. Randy was born in January of 1963. The family later moved to Big Spring, Texas, to finish up Dan's military commitment; at that time, they moved back to Iowa, and eventually purchased a home in Charter Oak. Janice moved into Denison after Dan's passing.

Janice was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak and later attended Zion Lutheran Church after moving to Denison. She enjoyed gardening, completing puzzles and reading. A couple of her interests included hot air balloons and scrapbooking. She liked working in the greenhouse in Big Spring, Texas and Auld's greenhouse in Denison. She also spent time working at Farmland, Hy-Vee and Job Corp.

Janice passed away on July 10, 2021, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 82 years, eight months and 22 days.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Daniel Throckmorton on June 4, 2016; and brother, Darold Kahl. She is survived by her two sons: Ron (Patty) Throckmorton of Carroll and Randy Throckmorton of Lakewood, Colorado; two grandchildren: Brittany (Derrick) Thygesen of Carroll and Brandon (Karlie) Throckmorton of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; great-granddaughter, Avery Thygesen; two sisters: Linda Brown of Papillion, Nebraska and Leola Kahl of Lincoln, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, Janice would love to be remembered as a loving "wife", "mother" and "grandmother". With that being said, we would love for you to pay it forward. Please donate to St. John's Lutheran church, Zion Lutheran church or to Tori's Angels (The foundation that has helped little Avery so very much). Pay a utility bill or buy groceries for someone that is struggling. Pay for a Law Enforcement Officer's lunch or help purchase life saving equipment for an officer. There are many ways to help.
