Charlene Kay Baas, the daughter of Charles and Minerva Curtis was born Dec 23rd, 1955. She attended Burt Schools and graduated in 1974. Following this she wed Ronald Baas and started a family. Four kids and few cities later found them putting roots down for 25 years in Clarion. An employment path took her from Cunningham's Cafe and Shepard's Cottage in Burt to Tausz in Clarion following graduation from NIACC with an accounting degree. Iowa Tanklines, ADS, and Neodata followed before taking over the bakery section of the local grocery store, Super Foods, before retiring.
Something that few people know that Ron thought people would enjoy knowing is that she was a natural at fishing. Or lucky. But certainly not a strategist at it. Fishing trips to Minnesota with her parents and Ron consisted of her spending the last time fishing and always nabbing the biggest one. Hours spent on the water with the other three, playing with her pole all the time...they just knew something we hadn't figured out yet. She was one in a million and quite a catch herself and any lucky enough to be around that felt it before they knew it.
Charlene died Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. She was 65.
Charlene is survived by her husband, Ron; her children: Josh (Jami), Jessica, and Noah; and her grandchildren Jackson and Jude. She is also survived by her brothers, Dallas (Kathy) Curtis of New Richland, MN, David Curtis of Algona; sisters, Audrey (Dennis) Johnson of Lincoln, NE, Marsha Curtis of Rodgers, AR, Cheryl (Danny) Fourage of Algona; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Nicole; parents and in-laws, and siblings Clifford, Marlys, and Jim.
