In loving memory of

Leona Anges Jones
August 18, 1932 - June 30, 2021

On June 30, 2021 Leona Jones passed away peacefully in her home. She was 88 years old. A lifelong California native, Leona was well-loved in her small town of Los Banos. She was born in Fontana, California to Fred and Julia Jahn and was one of seven children. She grew up on a small family farm, went to school, fell in love, got married and started a family of her own. In 1968 the family relocated to Northern California and settled in Los Banos where Leona continued her career at the J.C. Penny's department store in yardage and drapery department for another 10 years. During her time at Penny's customers often referred to Leona as "Jonesy" or "Mrs. Penny's" because she would take on each customer's project as her own helping them select draperies and yard goods offering helpful hints, which often included going to their homes to take measurement if need be. She later retired from J.C. Penny's with over 26 years of service.
After her retirement, Leona devoted her time to her children and grandchildren. She was known for her whimsical cakes of bunny's, bears and butterfly's and pretty much made most the of her grandchildren's birthday cakes as well as designed and made popular Halloween costumes, Leona was also known for her back yard vegetable garden and keeping her family will stock in fresh produce during the summer months. Leona was also known for her art and craft skills, drawing, and painting, sculpting and was often called upon to make unique decorations for her children's parties and special events. Cooking was another favorite thing she enjoyed and she was always asked to make dishes for many a church function, cupcakes for the grandkids school parties and of course putting of a spread for a family get-together was never a problem.
Leona was predeceased by her husband of 66 years Marvin E. Jones, and her grandson Jared Jones. She is survived by her three surviving children, Linda Allen (George), Gene Jones (Candy) and Vickie Thivierge, 6 grandchildren: Art Thivierge, Audra Cotta, Brett Jones, Julia, Stacey and Robin Allen, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren and dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews.
