JoAnn Rita Halbur
January 30, 1944 - June 28, 2021

JoAnn Rita Halbur was born on January 30, 1944 to Walter and Martha (Williams) Riesberg in Templeton. She graduated from Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville. JoAnn worked as candy striper at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll. She was united in marriage to Larry Halbur on November 23, 1963 in Carroll and five children were born to this union. In 1986 the couple moved from Denison to Visalia, CA. While there, JoAnn loved visiting the mountains on the weekends. They moved back to Iowa in 2004.

JoAnn was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Besides her own children, her biggest joy was her work in childcare. She enjoyed crocheting and making homemade gifts for the ones she loved. She also took pleasure in adult coloring and word searches. She cherished attending her children and grandchildren's activities. She really loved the Chicago Cubs. JoAnn and Larry also spent time traveling the world. Some of their favorites were Germany, Spain, Costa Rica and Alaska.

JoAnn passed away at Crawford County Memorial Hospital on June 28, 2021 at the age of 77 years, four months and 29 days.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Dean Halbur; two granddaughters, Harlie Watkins and Martha Watkins. She is survived by her husband, Larry Halbur, of Denison; children: Annette (Ray) Watkins of Vail, Brenda (Bennett) Freese of Denison, Cindy (John) Dinis of Visalia, CA and Ed (Sara) Halbur of Ankeny; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; siblings: Pat Hinners of Carroll, Donna (Joe) Grote of Carroll, Jerry (Verna) Riesberg of Waterloo, Gene (Nancy) Riesberg of Ankeny, Darlene Hinners of Carroll and Randy (Jerri) Riesberg of Lidderdale; numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Rose of Lima Prayer Garden or St. Rose of Lima Catholic School.
