Doris Marie Loken

HOUSTON, MN - Doris M. Loken, 89, of Houston, MN died on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at Valley View Healthcare and Rehab in Houston.
Doris Marie McGaffey was born on May 29, 1932, in La Crosse, WI to George and Helen (Olson) McGaffey. Doris was raised in the Houston area and was a graduate of Houston High School. On November 5, 1950, she was united in marriage with Wilbur Loken at Money Creek United Methodist Church. Doris was a very strong, and determined woman. After she was first married and had small children, Doris moved around to many places as the wife of an Airforce man, including Hawaii and Las Vegas. Doris and Wilbur made many life-long friends through the military. After raising her children, Doris worked at Valley View Nursing Home for many years, primarily in the laundry department. Doris enjoyed sharing her talents with embroidery, sewing, making lefse, rosettes and date filled cookies. She and Wilbur enjoyed car club, bowling, and camping. She was a member of the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church and the choir there, and the Houston American Legion Auxiliary. Doris was a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her four children: Michael (Brenda) Loken of Crestview, FL; Karen Todd of Houston, MN, Kathleen (Ron) Carrier of Rushford, MN, and Elizabeth (Troy) Nelson of La Crosse, WI; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Georgia Sand.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur, parents; sister, Onabelle; and two sons-in-law: Dennis Todd and Alan Strong.
There will be a funeral service for Doris at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 18, 2021, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Reverend Linda McPeak officiating. Burial will be at the Stone Church Cemetery in Houston. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials directed to the Stone Church Cemetery, Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, or Valley View Home Foundation.
