Elaine Marie Huss was born September 4, 1941, the daughter of Joe and Jean (Nasser) Ferris in Omaha, NE. The family moved to Middlesboro, KY then to Sioux City, IA where she graduated from Bishop Heelan Catholic School in 1959.
Upon graduation, she worked for the Sioux City Chamber of Commerce as a executive secretary. She eventually moved to Omaha with some girlfriends and became an executive secretary for JJ Newberry and met the love of her life Denny Huss.
They were united in marriage at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City, IA on April 4, 1964. They had their oldest two sons in Omaha before moving to Fort Dodge, IA in 1966 to open a locally owned restaurant called The Country Kitchen located in the Crossroads Mall. The restaurant eventually became known as the local favorite D'Laney's (Denny & Elaine) and served the area for over 23 years. Elaine was known for her homemade pastries she made daily from scratch. Her cinnamon roll made the Top 10 in the State where she was awarded 3rd overall by Chuck Offenburger & The Des Moines Register. Elaine enjoyed volunteering and is fondly remembered for teaching disco lessons at Sacred Heart Middle School and hosting the annual County Home Xmas Caroling with family & friends. Elaine and Denny along with best friends, John & Connie Bruner established the Friends of St. Edmond Ball fundraiser in 1984. Upon the sale of D'Laney's in 1988, Elaine found her true calling as a full-time mom of four boys and brand new Sittie (grandmother). She loved her family above all else and was their biggest fan at all their activities. Family traditions including holidays, dinners and vacations filled her heart with so much joy.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Denny Huss; sons, Mike & Dee Huss (Fort Dodge), Danielle Huss (Knoxville, TN), Nicole & Nick (Chloe) Young (Arvada, CO) and Hannah Huss ; Steve and Laurie Huss (Fort Dodge), David Tann (West Des Moines) and Josie Huss; Joe Huss (Fort Dodge), Bryan & Kait (Emrie) Huss (Spencer) and Livi Huss; BJ & Susan (Anna , Lucy & Eli) Huss (Urbandale), her only sister and best friend; Bobbi & Bob Rehal, brothers; Richard & Julie Ferris and David & Susie Ferris all of Sioux City, IA and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Elaine was proceeded in death by her father and mother in-law, Harry and Lucille (Dickes) Huss; Joe and Jean (Nasser) Ferris and grand daughter, Allison Huss
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to St. Edmond Catholic School and/or Holy Trinity Parish.
