A Celebration of Life for Sam will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the Windsor Manor in Algona. Social distancing practices will be followed, and masks will be required.
Samuel S. (Sam) Weatherly, formerly of DeWitt, IA, passed away on April 22, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Private services will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo, IL. Vandemore Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting with arrangements. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Algona. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials donations be made to the charity of your choosing in Samuel's name.
Sam was born on February 15, 1929, in Central City, Nebraska, to Fred and Jessie (McCloud) Weatherly. Sam married Donna Hough on August 1, 1948. She preceded him in death on October 15, 1983. Sam married Josephine Kunkel on January 12, 1985. Sam had a long, distinguished career in the financial industry.
Sam is survived by his wife, Josephine; his children, Alica (Joseph) Puskar, Sandra (John) Horrex, Bruce (Marcy) Weatherly, and Randy (Mary) Weatherly; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and brother, Denzel (Lois) Weatherly of Tekamah, Nebraska. He is also survived by his stepdaughters, Joyce (Dennis) Frideres, Jean (Ron) Becker, and Joanne (Larry) Mergen, all of Algona; step-daughter-in-law, Betty Kunkel of Algona, and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild; two brothers; three sisters; and stepson, Gary Kunkel.
