John J. "Jim" Buntin
Canton - John J. "Jim" Buntin, 98, of Canton, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, at the Farmington Country Manor nursing home in Farmington, IL. He was born December 14, 1922 in Bushnell, IL to Henry and Ruth (King) Buntin. He married Bonnie Walker on July 29, 1943; She died August 13, 1991. He later married Jane Svob on July 11, 1994; she died on February 20, 2003.
Surviving are one daughter, Ellen (Phil) Chaddock; two grandchildren, Adam (Sarah) Chaddock and Jennifer (Jarrod) Wenger; five great-grandchildren, Abigail Chaddock, Lillian Chaddock, Beatrice Chaddock, Mitchell Wenger, and Caitlin Wenger, all of Peoria; one step-daughter, Patricia Warfield; and two step-grandchildren, Mary (Ryan) Lewis and Andy Warfield.
He entered the Army Air Force in January 1943, during World War II as a medic, and completed Officer Candidate School in August 1945. He was recalled into the Army as a 1st Lieutenant during the Korean War in 1951, serving with the 28th Infantry Division in Germany as a Battalion Surgeon's Assistant.
He worked several years for Kroger, Benner Food Stores, and Giant Food, later working for Caterpillar for more than 18 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Canton V.F.W. Post #1984, Cuba Legion Post #533, Canton Moose Lodge #784, and U.A.W. Local #974 retired.
A visitation will be held at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton on May 18 at 10:00 a.m. with a burial with military honors following at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.
Covid 19 mandates will be followed with social distancing and facial masks required.
