David Walter Hast
October 19, 1939 - May 7, 2021

David Walter Hast was born October 19, 1939, to Alfred W. Hast and Katherine (Didier) Hast in Denison, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Buck Grove, Iowa.

He received his education in Buck Grove and Denison schools. He passed away on May 7, 2021, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.

On January 28, 1957, he joined the US Air Force and served his country honorably for 27 years. In the Air Force, he was a jet mechanic and worked on B52 airplanes; was stationed around the world.

On July 21, 1957, he married Arlene Delores Schurke at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. Carl W. Schmidt. To this union five children were born. He was very proud of his four sons and the men they all became.

He returned to Denison in August 1984, and worked at IBP until retiring in 2009.

He loved his eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was a big fan of country music, especially Johnny Cash. He loved playing pinochle. He was a true gentleman who was friendly to everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene of 63 years; his four sons: Michael (Maggie), Timothy (Cheryl), Jeffrey (Diane), Scott (Kathy); his sister, Dorothy Hanks; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter; his parents, Alfred and Katherine Hast; his brother, Robert Hast; and his sister, Joyce Blizzard.

No visitation will be held.
Interment will occur at a later date.

He was always willing to step in and help out or teach me anything that I needed to know. I'm glad that I was able to know and work with David. He was a great person. "
