Elvie Louis Richardson
July 28, 1952 - May 1, 2021

Elvie Louis Richardson was born July 28, 1952, in Beeville, Texas, to Charles M. Richardson and Katherine Pearl Isaacks Richardson. He passed away May 1, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Paula Richardson and son Daniel Richardson of Austin, granddaughters Audrie and Dixie Richardson of Austin, mother Pearl Richardson of Pawnee, sister-in-law Donna Richardson of Lockhart, sister-in-law Kelly Richardson of Mineral, brother-in-law Paul Vercher and wife Terri of Round Mountain, nephews Allen Richardson, Justin Richardson and wife Tayler, Patrick Richardson and wife Tara, Brady Vercher and wife Ali, Brody Vercher and wife Vanessa, niece Jenna Abbott and husband Jeremy, as well as great-nephews and nieces whom he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by son Christopher Shaun Richardson, father Charles Richardson, and brothers Gene Richardson and David Richardson.

Elvie spent his early life in Corpus Christi, until his family moved to the Harwood area in the 1960s. He graduated from Gonzales High School in 1971. After serving in the U.S. Army, Elvie attended Texas State Technical Institute in Waco. He later began working in the grocery business and eventually went into management. Elvie met his wife Paula at Harwood Baptist Church, and they married in 1976 in that church where Paula's father, Rev. Paul Vercher, was pastor. In 1978, he and Paula moved to Austin, where they raised their family and she taught at Crockett High School for 27 years while Elvie pursued his career in grocery store management. In 1990, Elvie purchased Fresh Plus Grocery in Dripping Springs, where he was the manager, and owned and operated it as Super Fresh Grocery. In 1988, he opened Showstoppers Video, which he operated for 26 years in Dripping Springs, and later added Showstoppers Computer Repair.

Raised in the Baptist Church, Elvie was a man of devout faith. He served as a deacon at Friendship Baptist Church and was a member of Westoak Woods Baptist Church.

Always ready with a smile and humor, Elvie loved to have a good time. He would break out in song without a moment's notice -- oftentimes to a tune made up on the spot. He was the king of dad jokes before they were cool. He loved movies, especially the old cowboy classics. And Top Gun. He enjoyed boating, fishing, visiting the coast (especially driving his Jeep down Padre Island), playing games, and making memories with his family that they will cherish forever.

Elvie was constantly curious about technology, from large, "portable" speakers he lugged around in his beloved Pontiac GTO and shoulder-mounted camcorders (he was always the man behind the camera) to virtual reality headsets. His living room was outfitted with a state-of-the-art home theater, and he loved to watch "Star Wars" movies with the volume so loud it would shake the walls. He taught his nephews how to build their first computer before most people had them in their homes. He was always tinkering with the latest and greatest gadgets.

Throughout his life, he served his church, country, and community. Encouraging and good natured, he treated everyone with honesty, fairness, and respect. He pursued his passions. He passed his joy on to and reveled in the success of others. Above all, he is remembered as a man of God and family. He was an unassuming role model for us all.

His absence has left a huge void in our family, but we rejoice in knowing with certainty that we will see him again.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 5, from 6-8 p.m., at Harrell Funeral Home Dripping Springs. Services will also be held at Harrell Funeral Home, at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westoak Woods Baptist Church in Austin.
