In loving memory of

Walter Thomas Troegel, Jr.
June 19, 1928 - April 21, 2021

Walter Thomas Troegel, Jr., 92, passed away April 21, 2021 at Pueblo Norte Senior Living Community in Scottsdale with his family by his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Edna Troegel of Shreveport, LA, and his sons, twin babies Stephen Walter and Scott Andrew (1957), and Gregory Martin (1960-2004). He is survived by his wife Joyce of 68 years, and his daughter, Leslie Carol Harrell; son-in-law, Mitchell Kelly Harrell; and grandsons Cody Alan Harrell (Shannon Jones) and Travis Jacob Harrell (Aubree Martin).

Born June 19, 1928, in Edinburg, TX, Walter grew up in Shreveport, LA, a few houses down from his future wife, Joyce Rambin. He received his B.S. in Geology from LSU in 1950. He and Joyce married in January, 1953. He spent several years with Hycalog, an oil well service company, then moved to Jackson, MS, where he worked for independent oil man, J. Willie Hughes. The family then moved to Houston, TX, in 1968 where he worked for Monsanto. In 1972 he formed an independent oil company partnership called Gravtro with L.A. "Sonny" Gravel where he spent his final working years until retirement in 1988. In 1973, the family moved to Richmond, TX, after joining Fort Bend Country Club where many hours were spent on the golf course. Their retirement dream was to live in the Texas Hill Country, so in 1986, he and Joyce bought land near Center Point, TX, and began building a home and joined Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville, TX. In 1992, he and Joyce retired permanently to Center Point where Walter continued to enjoy golf. After Joyce had a debilitating stroke in 2015, they then moved to Scottsdale, AZ, so they could be close to their daughter, Carol.

An informal celebration of life will be held at a later date.
