Betty Deloris (Erickson) Fitzgarrald was born April 23, 1931, on a farm near Butterfield, MN, to Gunnar and Esther Erickson.
After moving into Butterfield, Betty started kindergarten, where she met her lifelong friends Lucille and Mary Lou. They started inviting her to Sunday School with them at the Butterfield Mennonite Church. Eventually, Betty and her brothers began attending Sunday School and other activities regularly. When Betty was 12, her Vacation Bible School teacher asked if she would like to accept Jesus into her heart. She said, "yes," and it changed the course of her life.
When Betty was 13 years old, her mother passed away, and Betty helped raise her two young brothers, Dewayne and Leroy. Betty graduated from Butterfield High School in 1949 and attended Grace University in Omaha, NE, for one year. She was married to Vernon Clipperton on June 22, 1951. Betty was a wonderful loving mother and grandma. Her favorite pastime was writing letters. She made many loaves of banana bread for family and friends. She loved working in her yard, tending her flowers. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Betty married James Fitzgarrald on September 15, 1979. They enjoyed many trips, especially those to the Butterfield Threshing Bee in Minnesota and visits with family there.
Betty is survived by her children Jane (Russ) Thomas, Jim Clipperton, Dee (Rich) Haglund, and Ken (Julie) Clipperton; stepchildren Kathy (Vaughn) Trask, Jim (Cheryl) Fitzgarrald, Diane Fitzgarrald, Vicki Dodge, Chris Fitzgarrald; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Dewayne (Tillie) Erickson, sister-in-law Ardis Erickson; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Preceded in death by parents, husband James Fitzgarrald, first husband Vernon Clipperton, three young children Donald, Doug, and Kathy, daughter-in-law Laura, step-granddaughter Tracy, and brother Leroy Erickson.
