Esther M. Pieper
May 17, 1927 - April 30, 2021

Esther Mary Pieper was born on May 17, 1927 to the late Nicolas and Hilda (Van Erdewyk) Loew in Lidderdale, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Esther graduated from St. Ann's Catholic School in Vail.

On November 21, 1949 Esther was united in marriage to Charlie Pieper at St. Ann's Parish. To this union, six children were born: Joyce, Dick, Jerry, Larry, Kevin and Cheryl. They made their home on a family farm west of Vail.

After graduation, she taught country school around the Vail area. Later, she worked at Marvin's Provisions before becoming a cook at the Ar-We-Va Community School for over 25 years.

She enjoyed cooking, baking and her many puzzle books. She also had a strong knack for bowling and playing cards. She was especially known by her friends for her BBQ sauce and banana nut bread. Esther had a strong faith; she loved her family more than anything.

Esther passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, April 30 2021, at the St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa attaining the age of ninety-three years, eleven months and thirteen days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Pieper; great-granddaughter: Talia Bruch; sisters: Irma Zieman, Rita Powers and Ruth Powers; daughter-in-law: Betty Pieper.

Left to cherish her memory, her children: Joyce and her husband Kim Von Glan of Westside, Dick Pieper and his wife Janice of Vail, Jerry Pieper and his wife Diane of Panora, Iowa, Larry Pieper and his wife Debra of Carroll, Kevin Pieper and his wife Sheron of San Antonio, Texas and Cheryl and her husband Jeff Vetter of Arcadia; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters: Helen Hannasch, Betty Nepple and Phyllis Luft; brother: Robert Loew; other relatives and friends.

Visitation is 5:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Westside. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 3, 2021 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail. Interment is in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Vail. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Masks and social distancing are required at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail.
