Robert L. Olson was born January 31, 1940 to the late Oluf and Helen (Wessel) Olson in Dow City, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Bob graduated from the Dow City High School with the class of 1958. In 1963, Bob enlisted in the United States National Guard and was honorably discharged 1969.
On November 7, 1965, Bob was united in marriage to Roseann Jaacks at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. To this union, four children were born: Rodney, Regina, Ronnie and Rashelle. They made their home in Deloit, Iowa.
Bob was a long-time member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He was also a member of the Silver Spurs Saddle Club. He was an avid farmer who enjoyed raising sheep, horses, chickens and stock cows with the help of his loyal dog, Leo. Bob also enjoyed fishing and made wonderful memories in Perham, Minnesota. He loved stock car racing and attending events at the fairgrounds.
He held numerous jobs over his lifetime, including: Crawford County Roads, Farmland Foods, Thomson/Stracke Implement and farmed for Glen Ballantine as well as other local farmers around the area. He was a member of the Union, serving as the Union Steward for many years. Bob was always dependable and worked hard to provide for his family. He never complained about his long hours of work nor the struggle with his diagnosis of cancer.
Bob passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at his home in Deloit attaining the age of eighty-one years, two months and fifteen days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lyle LaVerne, Eugene and Gordon Olson.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Roseann Olson of Deloit; children, Rodney Olson and his wife Erin of Schleswig; Regina and her husband Darin Schau of Ida Grove; Ronnie Olson and his wife Staci of Avoca; Rashelle and her husband Bill Rickers of Decatur, NE; 8 grandchildren;3 step-grandchildren; 2 step- great-granddaughters; siblings, Dona Siemer of Spickard, MO; Wayne Olson of Spickard, MO; Diana and her husband Lonnie Blunk of Princeton, MO; Debbie and her husband Creston Schubert of Galva, IA; Cindy and her husband Ron Hoffmeier of Denison; other relatives and friends.
Visitation is 5:00-7:00 PM on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Funeral Service is 10:30 AM on Monday, April 19, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Interment is in Morgan Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family .
