In loving memory of

Ruth Marion Olson
May 21, 1928 - April 14, 2021

Ruth Marion Olson 5-21-1928 - 4-14-2021
Ruth Marion Eatough Olson passed away peacefully in her sleep in her home where she lived with family for the last few months.

Ruth was born in Wisconsin on May 21, 1928. The youngest of three siblings, she was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie and Lester Eatough, brother Emory and sister Jeanette.

She married Albert 'Al' Olson on January 5, 1953, and they remained happily married 61 years, until Al's death in May, 2014. Ruth grew up in Shorewood, Wisconsin, where she made friends she would keep for a lifetime. She moved with her family to Ephraim in Door County, Wisconsin where she lived through her high school years. She enjoyed working in beautiful surroundings at her parent's resort along shores of Lake Michigan. As a young woman, she attended art school in Chicago, honing her natural artistic talents studying fashion design. When she moved back to her 'hometown' of Milwaukee she met Al, and they married before he left for service in the Korean War. When the couple was reunited, Ruth and Al settled down near Milwaukee where they made their home and started their family. Ruth was a good homemaker, and had 4 daughters, Cyndi Olson, Karen Garner, Bette Essinger and Marion Bolton. Ruth and Al moved to Texas about 50 years ago, and moved to the Austin area in the early 1990s, living close to her daughters and family until her death. Ruth cultivated her artistic talent for drawing and painting throughout her lifetime. She also loved to read romance novels, mysteries, and adventure stories; when her eyes failed her, she still loved to have family and close friends read to her.

She is survived by her 4 daughters, her sons-in-law Chuck, Dave, and Les, grandchildren Emily Garner, Megan Garner, Melody Bolton, Travis Bolton, and Bonnie Bolton, and great-grandchild Penny Garner Roose. She was a much-loved mother and grandmother and will be missed by all. Thank you and blessings to all friends, family and caregivers for all the kindness shown to her.

Details of a memorial service on May 5 will be provided soon.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a charity of your choice.
