In loving memory of

Edna Mae Sarpy
September 4, 1935 - February 19, 2021

Edna entered this world on September 4th 1935, Edna Mae Prudhomme, she was the seventh child and the youngest girl born to Marshall and Dozie Prudhomme. She was a welcome addition to the family and spent all of her childhood and most of her teenage years in Opelousas, Louisiana until moving with her parents and both younger brothers to Los Angeles, California in 1953 to join all her married older siblings .

Edna was seventeen and living at home when she met the love of her life Louis Sarpy, he was about 24 years old at the time and was introduced to Edna through her older sister Cora and brother-in-law Lawrence Malveaux. Marshall Prudhomme would not allow Edna to go out alone with Louis seeing as he was a "grown man." Edna's younger brother Felix and her niece Romeral were quickly enlisted as a chaperoned couple to go along with them on dates. This did not deter Louis, instead he gave Felix a dollar to sit somewhere else while giving him some alone time with Edna. A year later they were engaged and then married in Los Angeles, California on June 11, 1955 with many friends and family in attendance.

Life seemed to go by quickly with five children joining the family over the next seven years. First Louis Ronnie, who was born on Father's Day in 1956 soon followed by Wayne, Sheryl, Glenn, and finally Cornell. Edna took on her role as a mother and a wife. After all the children started school, Edna went to night school to continue her education. Soon after she got a job at the Inglewood city library as a typist. Edna later found her true passion in real estate. She retired in her late 60s to enjoy life with her family. Unfortunately, it did not last long when hard times hit and they lost their oldest son in 2006. It was also around that time she began to notice changes in her husband, who was later diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer's disease. However, she took it in stride and cared for him at home with the help of family and friends until his passing in 2016.

Edna passed away peacefully in her home on the evening of February 18th, 2021. She had been battling several health issues and truly saddened by the recent lose of her only daughter, but kidney failure was the official cause of her passing.

Edna was a passionate woman who enjoyed throwing parties and picnics, anything to get family and friends together. She enjoyed dancing and listening to zydeco music especially with her husband Louis. People would enjoy watching them because they danced beautifully together. She was a devoted wife for nearly 62 years and still devoted even after Louis passed. He was her one and only love.

Edna is predeceased by her Father Marshall, Mother Dozie, siblings Howard, Cora, Freddie, Lucille, Allen, Annie, Felix and William (affectionately know as Willie or Bill), her Husband Louis, son Louis Ronnie and daughter Sheryl.

Edna Mae Sarpy will be mourned by her three sons Wayne, Glenn, Cornell and her grandchildren Kathleen, Jasmine, Andre, Alyssa, Marc, Monica, and Elizabeth, her great-grandchildren Kamya, Cuzasia, Amora, Michael, Magic, and Messia along with her nieces and nephews, extended family and good friends.
