In loving memory of

Lynn Ray Gustafson
December 13, 1935 - April 5, 2021

Lynn Ray Gustafson was born December 13, 1935 in Austin, Texas to parents David Gustafson and Signe Anderson Gustafson. He left this earthly world to be with his wife of 57 years, Patricia Gustafson, on April 5, 2021.

Lynn met his wife while attending Elgin High School. He was a football player, and she was a cheerleader. After a long-distance courtship visiting Pat in college, he finally proposed with a diamond ring in the glovebox of his car. After their marriage in 1956, they would create a big family consisting of four children, Russell Gustafson, Stanley Gustafson, Patrick Gustafson, & Shawn Gustafson. Family was very important to him and it would continue to grow with four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Although he was the son of a poor sharecropper, he would go on to business school and eventually work his way up from a grocery store clerk to Senior Vice President of Finance for Sysco Foods. Throughout their lives together, Lynn & Pat enjoyed traveling all over Europe, Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska and much of the United States. Lynn was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time playing games with friends, going to church, golfing, watching sports, & eating out. Though a big man in stature he had an equally big heart, full of compassion, generosity, & kindness. He couldn't say no to anyone who needed help and often donated to many charitable organizations.

Lynn is predeceased by his brother, Curtis Gustafson and has one surviving sister, Rosalee Wilson. He is also predeceased by three half siblings, Carl Gustafson, Leonard Gustafson, & Linea Harris. Lynn's funeral will take place at Woodlawn Baptist Church on Tues., April 13th at 1:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Woodlawn Baptist Church.

"Lynn hired me in 1982 for a temporary job that turned into a career. He became my mentor as well as friend and encouraged me to follow in his footsteps. Always witty and supportive. I could not have found a better person to learn from. There are so many fond memories and stories of the decades we had. You will be missed my friend!"

"I will always remember his patience. As kids, when we would visit and dream up all kinds of mischief, he was so tolerant. He had a dry sense of humor and the biggest smile! I always admired him for his dedication to his family. He will be fondly remembered and missed by me and my family. I know he?s in Heaven now, probably listening to Pat and my Mom telling stories of times past and shining that bright smile! Sending our love and prayers to the family during this difficult time "

"I was 4 or 5 years old when my first BOYFRIEND married another woman! I was crushed! A number of years later I got a call to babysit their 4 children & much after that had Lynn Ray & Pat?s daughter in a class I was teaching! I will never forget either of them & am privileged to have known them! To their family may the God of Hope & Comfort be with you in the days ahead! "
