Richard U.E. "Chris" Christie, age 54, of Quincy, died Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at 5:06 am.

Richard was born October 17, 1966 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Richard "Dick" Christie and Kay Christie Sutherland.

Richard was a graduate of Madison Elementary School, Quincy Junior High School, and Quincy High School. He attended Quincy College. While at Quincy College, Richard was the president of the Young Republican Club during his Junior and Senior years under Father Francis Jerome. In his spare time, Richard loved being outdoors, especially if he was cycling, camping, fishing, or gardening. Richard also enjoyed traveling around the world and the United States. Internationally, he traveled to Central America, the United Kingdom, throughout Europe, and to Egypt. During his domestic travels he made it to most of the states with the exception of Alaska and the New England region. Chris was a baseball aficionado, and he was a life-long fan of the Chicago Cubs.

Richard had numerous nicknames, two of his favorites being "Otis Campbell" and "Papa Top".

Survivors include: his mother, Kay Christie Sutherland of Quincy, IL; two children: Erica and Phil Wittmer, both of Crown Point, IN; two grandchildren: Theodore Roberts and Olivia Wittmer, both of Crown Point, IN; his sister, Diana Joy (Larry) Herman of Quincy, IL; nieces and nephews: Nicki (Kyle) Stewart of Quincy, Damian (Alyssa) Herman of Phoenix, AZ; and Lexi (Nick) Schulte of Charleston, SC; and five great nieces and nephews: Ellie, Haddie, Jace, Amelia and Camden.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Richard U. "Dick" Christie, step-father, Malcolm "Mac" J. Sutherland, and his grandparents.

Graveside Services: 1:00 pm Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Woodland Cemetery, with Chaplain Josh Vahle officiating.

Burial: Woodland Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois
