In loving memory of

Jacob David Cottrell
October 1, 1989 - April 5, 2021

Jacob David Cottrell, 31, entered Heaven's gates on Monday, April 5, 2021, in Indianapolis. He was born on October 1, 1989, to Robin and LuzMaria Cottrell, who survive in Gas City. Jacob graduated from Mississinewa High School in 2008, and then went to college at Indiana Wesleyan University, originally going for a nursing degree, but he switched to a degree in Addictions Counseling, and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in 2012. For many years, he was a member of Healing Heart Church of God. In 2008, he became a member of Bethel Worship Center, where he was able to serve by running sound. He worked with Campus Life, helped students who needed tutoring, and he loved to counsel people who struggled with addictions. It did not matter what time of day or night it was, he was always willing to talk with someone who was struggling. Jacob was a very loving, thoughtful, and caring soul who was always willing to lend a listening ear. He fought the good fight and was a true warrior. Above all, Jacob was a true man of God. An inspiration to many, Jacob will be immensely missed.
He is survived by his parents, Robin and LuzMaria; sister, Victoria (Lucas) Harness, and a baby nephew on the way, Converse; maternal grandmother, Dolores Terrones, Gas City; paternal grandfather, Shirley (Jane) Cottrell, Amboy; aunts and uncles, Aaron, Miguel, Gerardo and Sheri, Antonio and Jessica, Roger, Christy and Mike, Pinky and Mike, and Sandy; special uncle, Bob; multiple cousins; godparents, Johnny and Kathy Dearing, Marion; and his best friend who was like a brother, Mitchell (Kelsey) Wooten, and their children.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Mary Lou Cottrell, and maternal great-grandmother, Victoria Maciel.
A time for visitation will be held on Friday, April 9, from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Bethel Worship Center, 1715 East 38th Street, Marion, Indiana 46953. A celebration of life will be held at the church on Saturday, April 10, at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the funeral home to help with expenses. Online memories and condolences may be shared at

"I remember when I first met my nephew Jacob, we had a special event for our youth at our Church, Emmanuel C.O.G.I.C. in Decatur Michigan, 2011. I missed out on getting to know my family for the simple reason that I was raised by my maternal grandparents who were Jacob's great great grandparents. But when we met in the parking lot of our church, we both embraced one another so tight as if we knew each other from back then. That was the kind of person he was, he would make you feel that love and affection. I enjoyed getting to know him, I will miss my nephew dearly. But he will always be in my heart. My condolences to my niece, Luz Maria and family. I will be lifting each and everyone in my prayers. Mijo, R.I.P. you will always be in my heart, I will always treasure your smile."
